The Shared vision Program (SVP) was a collaborative action, exchange of experience, and trust and capacity building intended to build a strong foundation for regional cooperation. The program aimed at promoting the shared vision of the Nile riparian through “a limited, but effective, set of basin wide activities and programs,” whose main goal was the “creation of an enabling environment for investments and action on the ground, within an agreed basin wide framework.”
Project portfolio.
The SVP project portfolio, was identified and prepared through a participatory process involving a range of stakeholders from the Nile riparian states, included seven thematic projects focusing on water resources, the environment, power trade, agriculture, applied training, communication and stakeholder involvement, and benefit sharing. These projects addressed the priority water-related sectors and cross-cutting themes identified by the Nile riparian to ensure an integrated and comprehensive approach to water resources development and management. The projects also served as a catalyst for broader socioeconomic development and regional cooperation. The SVP portfolio also included an eighth “project,” which strengthened the capacity of NBI institutions to execute and coordinate cooperative basin wide projects.
